Back to School

Well, it is back to school for me. I start back to work with my new set of kids tomorrow. Thankfully, the picture does not, in any way, reflect how I feel about it.

I am very excited to try some of the new tricks of the trade I have learned or that I did not get a chance to try last time. I will be teaching second grade at a great school. We have a new principal, new school boundaries and a great staff. I have not felt so welcomed, so quickly as with this staff, which I met last school year.

Even though the media does little more than bad mouth the state of our schools, the teachers (in the trenches) I have met (not just at this school) approach their craft with dedication and professionalism that the media rarely talks about. So, here is to a new teaching year. I consider myself honored to be a part of such a noble profession.

I agree with you, totally. I work in a title one school which has extreme socio-economic challenges families. I have been at this school, being my seventh year now. Topaz was many times 'poo-pooo'ed" as being a school for losers. I suppose that it why I am so much wanting to be there. There are no child losers.Special Education is an additional challenge. As I see it, we were all born a certain way in the image that God wanted us to be in. I feel the drive to assist those with special education needs. All teachers face new adjustments every day. I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity ( God Given For Sure !!) to have had my most special prayer answered to assist these kids.

I too, am really excited about this big change for us. Even though Derrick has been teaching for a few years now, this is the first year that he is starting off the year with his own class and a contract. The extra bonus is that he is at a school that he really loves. And that means so much in and of itself. I'm proud of you Derrick!

My condolences, Derrick. I’m sure we all remember a time when school administrators respected the very real need for students and teachers to have a real summer break and would start the school year in September, not August. But alas, the school season starts earlier every year, just like Christmas time. Again, I’m sorry about this bad news that you have just reported.

Russ, I am sure it is a challenge and a blessing to do what you do;

Tracy, thank you.

Kwame, I do not feel sad, in any way, to have a 7 week vacation. Working at Stater Bros. helped me appreciate regularly scheduled vacations.
