Happy Thanksgiving, all. This is a list of different quotes recognizing that we are not thanking the Pilgrims for landing on a Rock, nor the Indians for giving us corn, but rather the Almighty God from whom all blessings flow.
Colossians 1:12-14 "Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
Thanksgiving Quote by George Washington "Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public Thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.” Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be."
Thanksgiving Quote by Abraham Lincoln "It is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God; to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations are blessed whose God is the Lord. (Psalm 33:12)
Benjamin Franklin, Constitutional Convention of 1787 “God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without his concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel. Psalm 107: 19-21 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men."
John Adams and John Hancock April 18, 1775: “We recognize no sovereign but God, and no king but Jesus!"
1 Chronicles 16:34 "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For his mercy endures forever."
Amen and amen,
Derrick
