Hey folks, here is another from my Pastor. (Any format editing is my doing.)
His Journey
The rush of Christmas present has become Christmas past. All the anticipation, hurried shopping, visits with family, and all the great food, are, for the most part, memories. That which with we are left are the gifts that perhaps we wanted or maybe not. Like it or not, we will certainly keep the extra pounds that we will make New Year’s resolutions to lose. The most difficult reality to stomach is the inevitable return to the routine. That is the down side of emotional highs-they end.
The challenge is to not sink to an emotional low. The problem with Christmas, or any event that we look forward to with great anticipation is, sometimes, our expectations are not met. Do you remember the first time you walked down Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A. and the wonder you felt as a child was missing? Unfortunately, one can mistake maturity with disappointment and begin the futile search for the next great feeling of wonder. Life changes, and that is good.
It is healthy to step back from “the way it has always been” to see the new possibilities to which you are being presented by life. Perhaps it is time to leave childish and petty resentments behind and reconcile with loved ones before it is too late! Could there be a need to prioritize life purposefully to reflect an eternal perspective? As long as life is all about fulfilling one’s own expectations, you will be forever disappointed. Life isn’t about the emotional highs; it is about the journey- journey well.
...to be continued.
Derrick here...though I cut off the full article there, do not be mislead. The point the author makes in the second part is not the usual do-it-yourself-follow-your-heart-type-journey. It is a little more challenging than that. Come check out part two soon to see how it ends. :-)
