Here is the link to a video asking the question, Is Christ In Your Christmas? I am partial to the actors, since they are family members from back East. Please go check out the video and sincerely ask yourself that question. I know I am guilty of puttting many other things before Him during this season.
Which also reminds me of a recent blog post by Greg Koukl about not being generic when sending out Christmas cards. This is the time of the year where people who know we are Christians (do they know?), expect us to share something about Jesus and using Christmas cards can be purposeful. Here are a couple that move us past the generic and unoffensive things like Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings and even Jesus is the Reason for the Season (People turn off when they here this, partly because it is so overused).
People are so worried that someone may be offended that they stop proclaiming something meaningful. Season's Greetings? Uh..Happy Summer Break. Merry Spring Break.. What does it mean? Nothing really. It is simply a winter-flavored hello.
If you are Jewish, I expect you to give me a Happy Hanukah. If you are Christian, I expect , at the very least, Merry Christmas. I am not offended that a Jewish person would say Happy Channukah, just as people should not be offended by a Merry Christmas (from anyone).
With that said, go check out the video, be challenged as you consider whther Christ is in your Christmas and here are some more meaningful possibilities for your Christmas cards (for this year or next)
From the cradle to the cross:What the Child has done for those who receive His pardon…
Christmas Blessings…
…with a prayer that you come to a quiet place of reflection on the simplicity of Jesus’ birth and the magnitude of His purpose.
Christmas is not about giving, it's about a gift. May the gift of forgiveness through Jesus, our Lord, fill your heart this year. Merry Christmas.
The God of all creation humbled Himself to become a human being—our Savior, Christ the Lord. Because Jesus was born He could die, bringing the abundance of life we enjoy through Him. May each of you rest in the security of the Babe who’s birth we celebrate this day.
Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name “Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23
Now I've gotta go get some Christmas cards out,
Derrick
