Here is Part 2: Remember it is not all about you.
It is not that mature individuals walk through life without the experience of child-like wonder. When you journey with your eyes focused towards eternity, you naturally begin to value that which is eternal. Of all that can be observed and appreciated in our life time, only people are eternal; they, therefore, deserve our greatest attention. It is in the investing of our lives, through an obedient journey of faith in Jesus, into the lives of others, that one becomes surprised by wonder.
Wonder sneaks up on you and can be experienced in some of the most unlikely circumstances. One of the great mistakes we, as American Christians, make is to think we can welcome God to join us on our journey. We make statements such as, “God is a big part of my life.” As long as God is a part of “Our” lives, we miss the point of the journey. In Acts 17:28 we read, “…for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’” (N.K.J.V.). We are not our own, and this is not our journey. Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (N.K.J.V.). God never intended that our lives were to be lived in a desperate attempt to please ourselves. Nor did he intend to make us slaves to the tyrant that our expectations can become. Why do we need to have more and more and more? Why do some seem to have a need for the next great emotional high or adrenalin rush? [I would add the next new "thing"- D.]
The only life that can be truly satisfying is a life lived in obedient surrender to the One who owns the journey; that is by His design. One might be able to find a reasonable satisfaction without the Lord in this lifetime, but remember the journey is eternal. Why be satisfied with only starting well? Finish well! Not only are there surprises of wonder though out our lives on Earth, but God has promised wonders in Heaven that can’t even be imagined. A proper surrender of our ownership to the journey will help balance the highs and lows of life and provide purpose and meaning to even the mundane. Meet and know the Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, and Mighty God. Join Him on His journey of wonders.
