Searching for Gay Gene

Chicago researchers are searching for a 'gay gene'.
"If fresh evidence is found suggesting genes are involved, perhaps homosexuality
will be viewed as no different than other genetic traits like height and hair color, said Julio, a
student at DePaul University in Chicago."

Except it seems to me that someone's sexual behavior is different that what color hair I have. My hair or height has nothing to do with a predisposition to do immoral things. This student's statement is nonsensical, it seems to me. I can appreciate wanting to not be "discriminated" against, but more is wanted, namely acceptance. It can be an appealing argument. Though it does not seem persuasive upon closer examination.
"Many gays fear that if gay genes are identified, it could result in
discrimination, prenatal testing and even abortions to eliminate homosexuals,
said Joel Ginsberg of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.
However, he
added, "If we confirm that sexual orientation is an immutable characteristic, we
are much more likely to get the courts to rule against discrimination."

How come alcoholics don't go for this argument? How come the homosexuals get to use this argument? Alcoholics have a "disease". Why don't we not discriminate against an alcoholic who wants to drive after drinking or letting a drunk person babysit our kids...They can't help it right? Folks, some discrimination is good. We would not be a civilized society if we did whatever we wanted to whomever in whatever situation we wanted.

We are not animals, and this argument should not seem so persuasive (whether or not we were "born that way"-this looks like a way to justify our immoral behavior). It is natural for me to urinate, but I can't do it wherever I want. I was born a heterosexual; this doesn't mean I can have sex wherever or whenever with anybody I want. There are certain moral and civil rules in place that prevent us from degrading into an uncivilized and immoral culture.
"Even if research ultimately shows that genetics play a bigger role, it "will
never be something that forces people to behave in a certain way," Chambers
said. "We all have the freedom to choose."

Click here for a ministry called Exodus that ministers to homosexuals who are trying to change their behavior.

Regardless of your predisposition or how you were born; we all have the freedom to behave in a certain way. Especially when we submit to God's authority. Resisting temptation is not easy. But the fruit of resisiting temptation, whether from within us or without us, far outways the temporary pleasure that sin brings. There is freedom with God. And with God, anything is possible.

Although I agree with you, I tend to want to try and break it down even more. So, using your urination argument....we are not asking you to not urinate at all. We are asking that you have discretion when you do it. Or that you do it in a civilized manner of some sort. If there is this so called "gay gene," (I do not believe it exists) then why would we ask people to not have gay sex? Shouldn't we just ask them to get married and have only one partner? I know it seems silly, but I feel like that is how the argument breaks down.

I am not sure I am following your thinking. I think the main immorality part of homosexuality is the gay sex part. But I don't think that getting married will make the gay sex any less immoral. I think they are two different issues.

But I am still a little unclear in your connection. And I am not comfortable asking them to get married. It would still be immoral. Thank for your thoughts.
