I have been working in education for more than five years now and it is amazing to me some of the silly things the "educated" folks do. I'm sorry. But a hand making a gun shape and pointing it at another does not mean this kid is any more likely to shoot them for real.

Education: Child Sex Offender?

Girl, 15, Faces Child Porn Charges for Nude Cell Phone Pictures of Herself, says the Heading of the article.

NEWARK, Ohio — Central Ohio authorities have filed felony charges against a 15-year-old girl accused of taking nude cell phone photos of herself and sending them to high school classmates.

Police say the Newark Licking Valley student was arrested Friday and held over the weekend. On Monday, she entered denials to juvenile charges of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and possession of criminal tools.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio attorney general's office says an adult convicted of the child pornography charge would have to register as a sexual offender, but a judge would have flexibility on the matter with a convicted juvenile.

A prosecutor says Licking County authorities also considering charges for students who received the photos.

---Are you kidding? She send them herself and she will be charged with felony child pornography charges and could possibly have to resgister as a sex offender. Absolutely stupid thing to do on her part? Understatment of the year. Sex offender? I don't think so.

Now, those she sent them to? Depends on what they did with them, I suppose. Can they control what is sent to their phones? I don't think so. Did they send them on to other friends? They should be charged with something, perhaps -Not sure child pornography is appropriate (if they are minors themselves).

Tag is Banned

In an effort to maintain my tradition of posting about articles that are way too old, I continue. This article points to yet another ridiculous decision by the "education" system.

Kids were getting hurt in a more agressive game of tag, so instead of addressing the issues of agression (ie...don't tag someone who is not playing, don't push people down, don't jump on top of other students...), it is more sane to outlaw tag altogether? Don't run, don't chase, don't get fat, don't smoke. Some of the rules make sense, and others seem to illustrate the state of confusion our schools are in.

Since the ban on tag began, physical education teachers have begun a
"chasing, fleeing and dodging" unit in first through fifth grades. Students
essentially play variations of tag, and the teachers remind them about safety
rules and point out athletic skills they can transfer to other sports.

I love this...No tag, but "chasing, fleeing and dodging" games. Haha. Sounds like something I would do, since changing the name really makes it better. Right?

Suspended for Skittles

This 8th grade honors student was initially suspended and relieved of his class VP post as a result of the heinous crime of buying Skittles. Thankfully, he his sentence was cancelled and he gets to keep his Vice Presidency.

The principal's original statement was that he was interested in the safety of the students. Yeah, because I can't even count the number of students who have died of obesity for eating too many Skittles or choking on one. How silly is that? I swear our educators (and administrators) are losing their common-sense minds. Add this to the list of silly things being done by educators/administrators.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — An eighth-grade honors student who was
suspended for a day, barred from attending an honors dinner and stripped of
his title as class vice president after he was caught with contraband candy in
school will get his student council post back, school officials said.

Superintendent Reginald Mayo said in a statement late Wednesday
that he and principal Eleanor Turner met with student Michael Sheridan's
parents and that Turner decided to clear the boy's record and restore him to
his post.

Michael was disciplined after he was caught buying a bag of
Skittles from a classmate. The classmate's suspension also will be expunged,
school officials said.

The New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a districtwide school wellness policy, school spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo said.

"I am sorry this has happened," Turner said in a statement. "My hope is that we can get back to the normal school routine, especially since we are in the middle of taking the Connecticut mastery test."

Turner said she should have reinforced in writing the verbal warnings
against candy transactions.

Michael had said that he didn't realize his candy purchase was against the rules, but he did notice that the student selling the Skittles on Feb. 26 was being secretive.

Second Grade Student Suspended for Drawing Stick Figure Firing Gun - More stuff you are not allowed to do in school. I'm all for helping to curb violence, but this seems yet another example of a hysterical-type reaction.

So, here's the score of what is allowed or not in schools.

• You cannot draw stick who shoot at each other.- 2nd grade Suspension
• You cannot point your "gun finger" at another pretending to shoot them. Kindergarten Suspension.
• No tag.
• No taking Tylenol from a friend- Junior High Suspension and drug counseling.
• Just say No to drugs.- How come we have no "Safe Drug Use"?
• You cannot hug other students on the way to class.- Junior High
• Birth control pills, condoms- No problem- your parents don't even need to know. -Junior High
• Abortion- No problem- in some schools- your parents don't even need to know.
• Born a boy- feel like a girl- You can go ahead and use the girls' lockeroom and bathroom.- Recently signed bill by Gov. Schwarzengger.
• Say the name of Jesus at a graduation speech- You don't get your diploma unless you apologize.
• Read your 2nd graders a story where Prince Charming meets and marries Prince Charming.- No problem.
• Tell others that homosexuality is wrong, or immoral- You are accused of hate speech.

This, I am sure, is just a partial list. If I have misrepresented any of the facts, please let me know. What in the world is going on in our society that things are so warped? It absolutely boggles my mind. People are hysterical, even in the education field. We've got our priorities all messed up, I say.
