Crip's Founder - Nobel Peace Prize

Doug TenNapel has a brief and powerful argument as to why Tookie William's does not deserve to live or win the Nobel Peace Prize for which he was nominated.

Warning: There is a link to some rather telling, and graphic photos.

Doug is a former college classmate of mine, and I continue to follow both his career and and read his political thoughts. Once again Doug and I are in agreement. If Tookie is in fact redeemed (as he claims) then all that will happen with his execution is human punishment...which by his actions he richly deserves.

A couple of my students pointed me at your blog today, and I was suprised to see references to Doug. Small, small world.

Still Thinking,

Thanks for stopping by. I think it is true what you say as well. I think it is possible for even murderers to be redeemed. Whether Tookie is or not, I don't know. But just because someone finds Jesus and is forgiven does not mean they do not suffer the consequences for their actions.

I know several folks who had to give up alcohol because their body is shutting down as a result. Forgiven or not, his years of drinking took a toll which his body is paying. Consequences.

Where do you teach?

OK, it seems that it may get even smaller. I live in Apple Valley.

I figured out that you lived close (one of the students who pointed me to your site has gone to church with you).

Doug pops up quite a bit, I was driving home from a convention recently, and heard him in a discussion on the Hugh Hewitt show...and he of course has his show on Nick at Night.

Now you got me all wondering who this mystery person is. :-) Glad to have you aboard. I hope I do enough quality writing tht you come back and/or tell your friends/students/whomever, unless it's bad, then don't talk to anyone.

His name is Adam Rodriguez...

I am trying to teach he, and his class the value of blogging...

My guess is that by this time next year most of them will have their own blogs.

OK. I know him. I have subbed for his mom a couple times as well. I am glad you are encouraging your students to get involved and blog with a purpose. It is good because you don't necessarily have to like writing to be able to use the blog effectively. It helps, but is not necessary, particularly on a small scale.

Though, of course, I attempt to use proper grammar (I'm not as good as my friend Kwame, but I am pretty basic) and spell things correctly, even if it takes a bit longer.

Keep up the good work.

I am shocked that people actually feel that he should get a Nobel Peace Prize. I am glad that he has "changed". However, in life, we must face the consequences of our actions. When my students misbehave, they face the appropriate consequences. Even if they apologize...they must face the consequences of their actions. So, if we were to apply this peace prize situation to misbehaving students....in that case, if the student apologizes then he/she should get some candy or a free homework pass. I don't think so. A good rule of thumb...don't reward someone for doing something bad.
