Quote of the Day

"Nothing is as simple as we hope it will be." Jim Horning

Also, I would say that we humans do not keep things as simple as they could be. Both are worthy truisms, I think. The first reminds me that I do not know as much as I think I do. It seems the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

However, that said, I think it is still reasonable to be fairly certain about some things in life. Or perhaps at least have a degree of conviction about one's beliefs.

The quote is like an...onion..or a parfait...many layers

Some things are more simple that we had ever hoped for. I for years had nothing to do with any belief in Christians, Christianity, or the like. My direct quote about those witnessing to me was, I'll believe what God is real when I see it". Jesus made his gift of eternity much more simple to gain than I had ever hoped for.

Russ, perhaps you could share a little more about when you trusted in Christ for your salvation. I would be interested in hearing that.

FMC,this was an offshore oil rig transfer factory. It was all big, all heavy, swivel joints having ball bearings the size of bowling balls. It was hard work, yet a great working environment. There were many Chjristians there with many stories of their salvation. These were people of every sort. I had never seen such a thing. Christians with long beards, tattoos, ex-drinkers or drug users, some with little story at all. There were two people in particular. Sit back, this may sound hard to believe. There was one woman, about 20 years my senior. She and I clicked. She shared the word with me every day.I was a machinist and she was an inspector for my product. Her name was Dolores Saylor. There was also a master painter. Bob had a long beard and long hair. He chain smoked all day. Yet, he was such a fine and honest man who truly loved The Lord. Dolores sort of adopted me like her son. We were very close. Keep reading, you really want to hear the end of this story. Sorry it is so long. One day, I asked Bob if The Lord would really let me love him too. He stood with me as I said The Sinner's Prayer with him. I instantly felt renewed. I was amazed, clean feeling, and saved! Dolores came over and looked at me. She knew! I was now a part of this wonderful family that I had no idea existed. It was just wonderful. I kept in weekly contact with Dolores until the day she died. Doores suffered from severe diabetes. She lost an arm, a leg, then the other leg. Not once did she ever feel sorry for herself, ever. She had a blessed spirit and I loved her as a son would love a mom. She loved me too. You see, I accepted her as she was as well. Dolores was a lesbian, who was married to another woman. Penny was her name. I still have contact with Penny, who is nearing 80 years of age now. It was never my place to judge her. I can tell you this. Dolores and Bob were two of the finest Christians I have ever known. They truly were instrumental in guiding me to The Lord.

Russ, thank you for sharing how you came to know God. It is always interesting to know the role of different people in our lives.

God can definately use different means to get our attention.

Thanks again,
Derrick
