Quote of the Day- True Progress?

"Progress isn't made by early risers. It's made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something." Robert Heinlein

Heh. Heh. This reminds me of when my dad used to tell me to work harder by using my brain and stay far, far away from manual labor. Good advice for me and nerds everywhere. I stay away from things that represent all that is...labor...exercise, work, exercise that takes work, work that feels like exercise...Yeah, those things.

As a way to earn a living, I do not enjoy manual labor. I've been there done that lots of times. I do though, enjoy the satisfaction of building something, digging trenches to repair my own irrigation system, painting a friends house, working on my vehicles, and things of that nature. My parents took long walks in the evenings.I also enjoy that. Even as a form of vacationing, my family hiked to the bottom of The Grand Canyon one day. We slept on the ground at Phantom Ranch, and hiked back up the next day. This vacation was misunderstood by many. Our next door neigbor said it best. Norman was 42 years old, never walked farther than he had to, ever. When he was told that we hiked to the bottom of The Grand Canyon,he said,"Isn't there an easier way to get there?" He totally did not get it. The next year, Norman suffered a massive heart attack. He survived, just barely. After that, he was an inspiration. He walked at a brisk pace each and every day, for miles. He had a perpetual smile. Norman finally "got it". He is still active today at age 85. Work that feels like exercise and exercise that takes work can indeed be a task. I do think they are good things though. My problem with it? That would be self motivation. Now then, if I could only get a handle on that, my work-out room would no longer be considered a museum.

That is kind of a strange quote. I don't think that I totally agree with it. However, I do agree that it is really hard to get motivated to exercise. Geeze. I mean, I really have to force myself every morning. I'm happy with the results, but it is not easy. I would much rather swim, or play softball, or tennis than go on the treadmill or do crunches. Yuck!

It does seem that those who follow a strict application to being early risers have a healthier life. I have two retired neighbors who have made it a point to get up before daylight and exercise. One goes to a gym, the other walks a mile to get his morning coffee. " Early to bed, early to rise ?" There may be something to it.

Of course, this also brings my ADD to think about how the "early bird may get the worm, but the early worm gets eaten."

Derrick, absolutely... The early bird gets the worm, BUT the second mouse gets the cheese... How true.
