Spanish National Anthem?

This article from a week or so ago has President Bush stating that the National Anthem should be sung in English, not Spanish.

When asked about whether or not the Anthem should be sung in Spanish, he responded with this:

"I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think
people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."

Though I don't necessarily think Bush's ideas about illegal immigration reform, I can agree with him on this point. I do not think it is a good idea to grant amnesty to people here illegally.

There are legal ways to become a citizen of the U.S., and I like what some commentators have likened giving amnesty to illegal aliens to rewarding criminal behavior. One even suggested that it would be like punishing a car thief by giving him the car he stole.

I think this, at some level, is a complicated issue. But I think it does the U.S. a big disservice to the Law of the land, and makes a mockery of people, immigrants or not, following any law. Why go through the process of becoming a citizen if you could just sneak over, and be rewarded by being given amnesty? I'm not sure there is a good reason.

What do you think?

I think you would do well to keep watching Lou Dobbs Tonight, funniest show on TV today.

Regardless of what happens with regard to future laws, illegal immigrants came here illegally. That seems fairly simple to process. In as much, I work with children of these families each and every day. I hear their stories of illegal entry into The United States. I hear of how life was for them where they came from. There was much sickness and suffering. If I were an adult in an impoverished country with little hope for my family, I wonder what I would do with such a rich country just a few miles away. My kids would have an education, medical aid, and a place to sleep. There is no easy solution here.

Hey Kwame, long time no see.

Russ, I agree with you that the issue is that those over here illegally are here...illegally. It does not matter, in a sense, what their prior home life is. I'm sure that most from Mexico came out of very poor conditions.

This should not matter in relation to their criminal activity of crossing the border illegally.

I don't really give a rat's rear from what kind of home life Mossouwi (sp) or any other terrorist came from. Nor do I care how unloved a murderer was. Their crime, it seems, is what needs to be dealt with.

At least that is part of the way I see it.

Lou Dobbs Tonight! Lou Dobbs Tonight! Lou Dobbs Tonight!

And by the way, the name is “Moussaoui.” Perhaps you’re confusing his name with something that you once had at a French or Arabic restaurant.

Illegal immigration can easily be curtailed if Bush honors the oath of office he swore when he became president. He swor to uphold the constitution and the laws of the United States. Thus, if their is any truth in him, he must enforce the law and demand that employers hiring illegals be prosecuted to the fullest. If he did so, the jobs for illegals would dry up, forcing them to return to their homeland. Subsequently, if a need arose for cheap labor, legal means of emigration could be used. Bush, however, choosed to be the most flagrant violator of the law by not honoring his sworn oath. He woul rather line the pockets of his cronies in the business world. Sad!

Those people here illegally are being protected by the biggest law breaker of all, Pres. Bush. He is not enforcing the laws of our soverign nation. Instead he acts for the benefit of employers, who are, consequently allowed to break the laws with impunity. I wonder, does his Good Book not say give to Ceasar what is Ceasar. Ceasar, our constitution, demands prosecution of law breakers. Maybe the Pres should start with himself, number one lawbreaker of all.

How unfortunate for we Christians who fight against abortion. Bush's inept handling of the illegal issue will undoubtedly result in many prochoice Democrats supplanting prolife Republican senators and congressmen in the November elections. Way to go Mr. Pres.!
