I thought this was an interesting quote. Any thoughts?
"Facebook is part of the larger electronic phenomenon deemed social networking, which includes text messaging, Twitter, email, blogging and so forth- all of which are said to herald a new day in human interaction. The let's stick to Facebook as the prime example and admit that, in the end, Facebook actually sabotages our ability to genuinly connect with others. ...While the popularity of Facebook facilitates broad connectivity, I believe it does so at the expense of intimacy. Intimacy is what we really want. But because we are lazy and fearful creatures, we'll settle for connectivity, because connectivity suggests intimacy but without the bother."

Quote of the Day- Revolutionary Truth
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
George Orwell
English essayist, novelist, & satirist (1903 - 1950)
--Sounds a little like the time we are living in now. Orwell often had a way of "seeing" into the future it seemed. Or humans have a way of messing up the same old way over and over again.
Global warming?- You dare look at all the facts and point it out, you are labeled a denier.
Abortion?- You dare want women to see the whole truth before they 'choose' to kill the baby, you are trying to tell women what to do with their own bodies.
Same-sex marriage?- You dare say that marriage is something in particular-same as for thousands of years; that a child does best with a mother AND a father and you are the extremist.
Religion?- You dare say that your religion is true; you are definitely a nut (regardless of the reasons you may have for holding your view)
Any other examples?

"It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can stop him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important." Martin Luther King, Jr.
I think this quote illustrates the importance of getting involved in the political world, at the least, I mostly mean that one should be informed.
This also goes against the silly argument that "you can't legislate morality". Yes, you can. That is what laws do.

Quote of the Day
A-Team blog had a little game of who this quote was from. Can you guess who said it?
UPDATE: Answer: Oprah Winfrey

"Classical theology has erred in its insistence that theology be
'God-centered,' not 'man-centered'."UPDATE: Answer: Robert Schuller
To find the answer, you can click the link or I'll tell you later.
Here's a bonus one from a few weeks ago.
"I was able to open my mind about the absolute indescribable hugeness of
that which we call "God." I took God out of the box because I grew up in the
Baptist church and there were, you know, rules and, you know, belief systems and
doctrine..."
"...I am a Christian who believes that there are certainly many more paths
to God other than Christianity."

Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless.
Thomas A. EdisonUS inventor (1847 - 1931)
I liked this quote since I often make mistakes. :-) Plus, I am kind of a the "Science Guy" at work, so this falls right into that category.
I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.

What Are You Laughing At?
"Tell me what you laugh at, and I'll tell you who you are." —now-deceased French novelist, playwright and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol
[Reader's Digest, 9/07]
I have heard this quote before, but it challenges me each time. What do you think it means? What do you think it tells you about yourself?

Quote of the Day- Manners
"The hardest job kids face today is learning good manners without seeing any." Fred Astaire
This is quite observant. Even if it was given many years ago, I think it still applies today. For my daughter, I (and my Beloved) am going to be purposeful in showing her by being an example she can look to because today in society she will not get too many examples from the world. And I am sure, there will be many times that I fail in this, but I want the failure to be the exception, and not the rule.
My beloved and I will be going through some material soon that deals with training our child to respect the position of authority people may have, starting with us, then other adults, her teachers, the President, etc...It makes me sad how folks disrespect the office of the Presidency. They seem to equate emoting about how they hate Bush with having civilized discussion in disagreement about his policy issues. Just because you can protest and shout profenities doesn't mean you ought to.
Anything to add?

Quote of the Day- Silly
"The tooth fairy teaches children that they can sell body parts for money." David Richerby
John Stossel talks about the idea of selling body parts, and why shouldn't people be able to sell and make a little money, since they are able to give them away and not make any money in his book, "Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity".
Good book, silly quote. :-)

Making a Mistake
Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.
Napoleon Bonaparte
French general & politician (1769 - 1821)
This is perhaps another reason I don't talk too much. :-) I was often told that it is better for you to keep your mouth shut and for people to think you a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
For me, when I am not careful, my mouth speaks what is in my heart and since our hearts are deceitful above all things. Sometimes, it is better to be quiet. This is why it is important to be careful what is going into your heart.

Cell Phones
"I don't own a cell phone or a pager. I just hang around everyone I know, all the time. If someone wants to get a hold of me, they just say 'Mitch,' and I say 'what?' and turn my head slightly." Mitch Hedberg

Global Ignorance
"You know everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects." Will Rogers
This is important to remember when we think we know it all. There are definately so many things I do not know about. And the more I learn, the more I learn that there is much I do not know.
On the other hand, there are some things I am convinced of that I have done the work to understand more fully.

Safe Unpopularity
Today's Quote: "My definition of a free society is a society where it is safe to be unpopular." Adlai E. Stevenson Jr.
Thankfully, this is still mostly true in our society. Especially from a Christian perspective. Though it has been under some attacks lately in some places where Christians are being arrested for telling homosexuals their behavior is wrong and/or immoral, even here in the US with some newer legislation coming around.
