Quote of the Day

"Nobody got anywhere in the world by simply being content." Louis L'Amour

Hmmm. I can accept this as a truism, but much can be said about some measure of true happiness is not achievable until one is content. Is there a balance between contentment and striving for more?

I think we need to stay away from the temptation to be jealous or covetous of what other people have (content)and be willing to work for those things we want and/or need. (not content)

In a marriage: we must be content that our spouse is who they are not what we may want them to be (you don't accept this-you'll go crazy). We must also, as a spouse, never be satisfied that we are the best husband or wife we can be. I know I am not though I am, for the most part, progressing (not content).

Spiritually: We must be content that we are imperfect children of God. But we must be not content with our spiritual state-if not a Christian, your separation from God and need to repent and trust in what God has done-if a Christian one's spiritual sanctification as God is developing you through the process of sanctification.

Interesting, multi-useful quote-what do you think?

It is an interesting quote. I agree with all of your points. It seems like not being content is almost a given these days. We are always in want of something more. This could be job related, degree related, material possessions, etc. I think that sometimes more will get accomplished by just being content. However, there are other times when I think we do need to not be content with where we are to get things accomplished. Good thought-provoking quote, Derrick.

I agree. This is a good quote. Being content means different things to different people. I also think that are different states to being content. It is not always on an even par. You can be content with having a job yet not be content with your job. Variables are a given.

Russ, that seems to make sense. Thanks for posting.
