Here's a story about how a valedictorian is being deported back to Armenia because they were not granted assylum after being in the US for more than 20 years.
While it is a sad story and it is too bad that it happened to a nice, seemingly well-adjusted family, it is important that folks who are in the US are making the effort to be here legally. This case is different than folks just running over the border.
Emotionally, I hope this family gets to stay. Lawfully, I think that we ought not give citizenship rights to those not here in America legally. I think the right thing was done here, as difficult a decision it may have been.
We must be careful that a nice story does not cloud our judgement to do the right thing.
